Program Overview

Designed to be both efficient and convenient, this online program has been created for busy parents and professionals interested in establishing a rewarding career as a teacher.  Our flexible and affordable 5-week courses are designed to fuel your career goals with minimal disruption to your work and life schedules.  

The Bachelor’s of Science, Educational Foundations program equips students with the ability/skills to effectively work with, mentor, and teach birth through eighth grade students in a public or parochial school setting.  This program also seeks to provide prospective students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree in the content area the opportunity to receive initial teacher certification through the alternative certification (ABCTE) route or apprentice programs.  Related, WWU will credit you 9 hours (3 courses) towards a master's degree in curriculum and instruction upon completing your Missouri Teacher Certification through ABCTE.

Note:  This degree program does not lead to initial teacher licensure.  

Credits to Complete 120 credits

What You'll Learn

Students will gain content, pedagogical, and/or professional knowledge in the following areas:  Students will understand learners; learning theory – including social, emotional, and academic dimensions; and the application of learning theory.  Students will engage in culturally responsive practice, including intersectionality of race, ethnicity, class, gender identity and expression, sexual identity, and the impact of language acquisition and literacy development on learning.  Students will be able to create assessments, use assessments, become data literate, and use data to inform practice.

Career Preparation

This bachelor’s degree provides students opportunities to easily transfer into a four-year teacher certification degree program, serve as a non-certified teacher in a private setting, serve as a non-certified childcare worker, serve as a certified paraprofessional, or hold a position as a curriculum developer.  Note: This degree program is NOT intended to prepare student Missouri teacher licensure.

  • Official transcripts with a GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • The Admissions Committee may review student qualifications and conditionally/provisionally accept students who do not meet the above requirements

COST: The cost with the discount is $212 per credit hour, which has been reduced from $360 per credit hour.
