Health Information Management Services AAS graduates are prepared to:
- Validate healthcare data and data sources for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness;
- Analyze health information for a quality, utilization, and risk management, and other patient care related studies;
- Interpret and apply laws and accreditation, licensure, and certification standards;
- Analyze the operation, application, and function of computers and related technology in the healthcare environment;
- Apply administrative principles, skills, and techniques in a healthcare environment.
Career Preparation
Associate of applied science degree graduates of CCC's Health Information Management Services program are eligible to take the national qualifying examination required for certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). The curriculum of the Health Information Management Services program (HIMS) incorporates the disciplines of medicine, management, finance, information technology, and law into the program.

Admissions Requirements
Admission to CCC's HIMS program is selective. To apply, you are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent with at least a C average. You must achieve acceptable pre-enrollment assessment scores or complete recommended skill-building/prescriptive work with at least a C average, prior to enrolling in HIMS courses. If you are transferring from another program of study, you must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.

Data Management | 12 credit hours | The Data Management certificate provides enhanced training for health care or information technology professionals where the two disciplines intersect. The student will examine the resources required to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval and use of data in health care. With the approval of the advisor, the student will complete nine required credits and three elective credits based on the student’s prior expertise. |
Health Information Clerk | 14 credit hours | The certificate provides fundamental knowledge of the content and structure of patient records for entry-level clerical jobs in health record departments. |
Revenue Management | 12 credit hours | The Revenue Management Certificate provides graduates with entry-level skills needed for employment in medical office and/or billing in a variety of healthcare settings. |
