Program Overview

Psychological Studies is a non-licensure graduate program that introduces students to a broad range of psychological perspectives, with a strong commitment to an evolving multicultural society.  Primarily elective driven program thus allowing students to tailor the program to best meet their career goals and interests. The program has a strong selection of courses in both the trauma studies and addiction areas.

What You'll Learn

Students are exposed to the principles of counseling. They learn about assessment, resources, cultural and racial dynamics, roles on interdisciplinary teams, ethics and relevant laws. They learn about small group dynamics and processes and how leadership styles influence group process. Students have flexibility to choose courses to support their particular interests in the field.

Career Preparation

Graduates may be eligible for advancement in human service careers that do not require licensure (primarily state agency workers who need a master’s to move into supervisory roles – Department of Mental Health, Department of Public Health, Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Youth Services, Department of Developmental Services). They will NOT be eligible to return to study towards mental health licensure at the CAGS level. Additionally Educators and education administration looking to support their students with more knowledge of substance use/trauma and career development. Doctoral level degree seeking students have had higher rates of admission when applying with a master's degree in a similar field of study. In addition, people working in life coaching/mentor roles can build their credentials with the skills learned in this program.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: For graduate programs, you will need to:

  • Earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Complete the full application
  • Submit official college transcripts
  • Resume that details your education and work experience, including how they pertain to your career goals. 
  • Submit your personal statement. Write a 250-word, typed, double-spaced essay describing your professional experience, goals and objectives for graduate study. How do you expect your graduate studies to enhance your future career?
  • Complete an interview. You’ll have an interview with Admissions or Faculty interview, generally by phone

For good cause shown, at the discretion of the Program Chair, institutional admissions requirements may be waived or altered upon written approval by the Program Chair.

COST:  The cost with the discount is $447 per credit hour, which has been reduced from $639 per credit hour. Plus, at Cambridge College, approximately 40% of courses eliminate the need for external books or materials.
